Welcome to Anime Science Class! Here are some mad anime theories. We will answer the weirdest anime questions you have…With even weirder explanations.
Here are just a few of the more common phenomena we see in everyday anime and the most likely explanations for them

Food For Thought
Question:
How do people like Miaka and Yuuki-chan manage to stuff their faces silly with all those goodies, without ever gaining a pound?
Explanation:
Uhhh..high metabolism? Miaka’s a growing girl.. and Yuuki too…
Eccentric Egghead Explanation:
Fool! Miaka is the Maiden of Suzaka, and Yuuki-chan’s other half is Yue, one of the guardians of the Clow cards. People associated with powerful magic like these two burn off lots of energy just maintaining their bond with their related magical farm. We will call this the “void stomach” phenomenon, as their stomach seems to have their own pocket dimension, like a black hole. AN unfortunate side effect of this phenomenon is that it drains energy from the host’d brain..which explains Miaka’s lack of common sense, and Yuuki’s seemingly carefree nature.
Compact Critters
Question:
Why do so many anime have cute animal sidekicks?
Explanation:
Because they’re so cuuute!!!
Eccentric Egghead Explanation:
Cute animal are not just cute ‘n’ cuddly, they’re the latest in Japanese miniaturization! Would you want to carry a 500-pound winged lion in your backpack while hunting for Clow cards? Card hunting is back-breaking enough without having to lug that around! Plus, cuteness gives a certain advantage in battle. It’s great for misleading your enemies: A two-foot yellow harmster that cries “Pikachu” is a surefire way to get your enemy to drop his guard, as opposed to a seven-foot tall thunder god named Raijin with lightning bolts shooting out of his eyes.
Day-Glow Show
Question:
When a hero gets angry, or when they’ve been beaten and are trying to get up, why do they glow?
Explanation:
This is usually the point when the character’s spirit energy reached emitted from their body.
Eccentric Egghead Explanation:
Stuff and nonsense! Whenever Recca or Yusuke get themselves in a pickle and you see what you think is their battle aura, ask yourself this: Have you ever seen them change their clothes or take a bath? Ever? It appears that this “battle glow” is nothing more than generating a lot of body heat, which evaporates all that icky dirt on their skin. Upon contact with the atmosphere, this “spirit sweat” reacts to create the various color tones we see, just like rainbows after the rain.
Flower Power
Question:
When anime characters see their crush, why do flowers sometimes bloom in the background?
Explanation:
The flowers are a reflection of the character’s mood—they mean that the character is filled with a sudden gush of love, and the flowers represent this feeling
Eccentric Egghead Explanation:
Balderash! This phenomenon is created by the mysterious Rabu-rabu (love-love) energy; Rabu-rabu energy, like dark matter, flows throughout the universe in small, undetectable amounts, but gathers around hopeless romantics’ like Ayu Tataishi from Ultra Maniac, Sakura Kinomoto from Cardcaptor Sakura, and nature-boy Ruka from Alice Academy. When guys like these see their crush, their spirit energy spikes and resonates with the Rabu-rabu energy. The now active energy reacts with the airborne particles (usually pollen from flowering plants)—and its power causes flowers to bloom in mid-air!
